We are looking for a m / f / x Doctoral fellow
YOUR JOB
- We are hiring a doctoral fellow on the topic of “Sustainability, life cycle assessment and carbon storage of underutilized wood products”. You will be part of an international and interdisciplinary consortium, working on the Horizon Europe project “WoodStock” that investigates climate-smart construction methods using underutilized wood resources like locally harvested hardwood, low-quality and post-consumer wood. As a collaborator on the project, you will research carbon storage and environmental performance of underutilized wood by means of Life Cycle Assessment. Starting from the review of existing modelling approaches, you will develop a (dynamic) modelling method to include carbon storage in life cycle modelling in an accessible and robust manner. Furthermore, you will work on a multi-criteria sustainability assessment approach encompassing both environmental performance, carbon storage, social and economic aspects to validate the circular concepts and solutions that are developed by other researchers within the WoodStock consortium.
- You will be part of the UGent Building Physics research group (Faculty of Engineering and Architecture) and the UGent Woodlab research group (Faculty of Bioscience Engineering), who have been collaborating on topics related to wood and biobased building materials for over 7 years.
