As a part of the High Purity Quartz Operations, the Environmental Specialist role will empower you will have a positive impact on the teams at its Spruce Pine, NC locations. As an Environmental Specialist, you will develop and maintain compliance programs to meet and exceed, where possible, all local, state, and federal environmental requirements. Monitor the activities of the waste treatment plant operators; coordinate with Plant personnel to accomplish objectives.

Your Impact in This Role

As an Environmental Specialist, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to :

  • Develop a working knowledge of environmental regulations (state and federal) and the Sites’ NPDES, Air Quality, and other permits. Consult Environmental Affairs staff for guidance when appropriate to ensure a consistent approach
  • Prepare and submit monthly DMR and quarterly toxicity testing reports (electronic) to NC DWR as outlined in the NPDES permits. Ensure all permitted parameters are within the limits specified in the permit
  • Perform laboratory analysis to NC DWR specifications. Maintain laboratory QC manuals and follow procedures outlined in the manuals. Complete annual studies required by the state to maintain environmental laboratory certification, participate in annual regulatory inspections
  • Maintain appropriate state certifications including, Grade 2 Physical / Chemical Wastewater Treatment Operator license. Serve as Operator in Responsible Charge (ORC) and Laboratory Supervisor
  • Conduct tank / containment inspections and adhere to Spill Prevention, Boneyard, and Waste Disposal plans.
  • Maintain wildlife WHC certifications and coordinate WHC team meetings, on-site projects, and annual local school education projects

What You Bring to the Table

  • Physical / Chemical Grade 2 License preferred or must be obtained quickly
  • Candidate should have a related degree with environmental experience or an environmental-related degree
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  • Fluency in the local language and written and spoken English.
