Our client is the world’s largest independent research and innovation center for nanoelectronics and digital technology. Known as the global chip lab, they spearhead advancements in technology that address the most critical global challenges—from climate change and pollution to accessible healthcare and sustainable food production. Their work underpins innovations across health, automotive, agritech, energy, and more. As part of their expansion, our client is establishing a specialized chip technology pilot line in Málaga, Spain. This new facility will complement the advanced 300mm CMOS process line at their headquarters in Leuven, Belgium, with developments in 300mm processes and new material integrations. The Málaga site will support R&D, prototyping, and future manufacturing of breakthrough technologies in healthcare, life sciences, photonics, AR / VR, and precision sensing.

ROLE

As a Mechanical Facilities Engineer, you will begin with a two-year assignment at the company’s headquarters in Leuven, Belgium, working closely with the FAIN engineering department. Following this period, you will relocate to Málaga to join a pioneering team responsible for the operation and maintenance of the mechanical systems at the new site, which includes a cleanroom (FAB) and supporting facilities like warehouses and offices.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design Phase Involvement : Collaborate with specialized engineers and project managers to review, validate, and improve proposed technical concepts and detailed designs.
  • Maintenance Strategy & Planning : Co-develop and implement a strategic maintenance framework, including planning and execution of preventive and corrective maintenance.
  • KPI Monitoring & Problem Solving : Track maintenance performance metrics, identify recurring issues, and implement effective solutions.
  • Master’s degree in industrial or engineering sciences.
  • Broad knowledge of general building technologies (e.g., electrical systems, automation) or specialized expertise in :
  • Cooling / heating systems (e.g., chillers, heat pumps, cooling towers)
  • Ventilation systems (e.g., air handling units, fans, ductwork)
  • High-purity water and wastewater systems (e.g., reverse osmosis, ultrafiltration, physico-chemical treatment)
  • Strong initiative and a sense of ownership, with a collaborative mindset.
  • Clear and open communicator, effective with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent documentation skills with a focus on technical accuracy.
  • Willingness to relocate to Málaga after the initial two-year training period in Belgium.
  • Proficiency in Spanish and a good command of English are required.
