The Saeys lab at the Inflammation Research Center (VIB), Ghent, Belgium, is offering an exciting PhD student position focused on the development of a computational cytometry detection method of measurable residual disease. Join our vibrant research environment and contribute to pioneering projects in bioinformatics and computational biology!Project overviewMeasurable residual disease (MRD) is an important negative prognostic factor for the risk of relapse in multiple hematological malignancies and is frequently detected using flow cytometry. The aim for this position is to develop a universal computational pipeline for objective, accurate and automated detection of MRD in multiple hematological malignancies (acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), multiple myeloma (MM) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML).What you will doApply and adapt existing algorithms, or develop new algorithms, and investigate their suitability in the detection of MRD in multiple hematological malignancies. Integrate these algorithms in an automated pipeline and validate them on various internal and external datasets. Develop a graphical user interface for direct applicability in the clinic in close collaboration with laboratory specialists and clinicians ProfileYou obtained a Master's in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Bioinformatics, Engineering, Bio-engineering, or equivalent. Background in AI (deep learning, probabilistic modelling, generative AI) or machine learning Proficient in Python or R programming Strong communication skills in English Strong interpersonal skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team We offerCompetitive stipend and benefits package Fully funded PhD scholarship, but encouraged to apply for a national PhD fellowship (e.g., FWO) A versatile and challenging academic position with very diverse contacts in a world-class research environment operating at an international level, and various opportunities to broaden your expertise. Access to state-of-the-art compute & GPU infrastructure Collaborative and supportive research environment with expertise in both the generation (wetlab) and the analysis (drylab) of high-end cytometry data. Attendance of national and international conferences Training courses in academic, technical, and career skills. How to apply? Please complete the online application procedure and include a detailed CV, two reference letters, and a motivation letter. For further information and questions, please send an email to Yvan Saeys ([email protected] ).
