The Research Group Neurology, part of Department of Translational Neurosciences of the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences is looking for a full-time (100%) doctoral scholarship holder in the field of sleep disorders in Parkinson’s disease.
Position
- You will work actively on the preparation and defence of a PhD thesis in the field of sleep disorders in Parkinson's disease. Your research work contributes within an international research project to the development of new biomarkers to detect Parkinson's disease at an early or prodromal stage. For this purpose, patients recently diagnosed with parkinsonism as well as patients with certain REM sleep disorders are investigated.
- You will publish scientific articles related to the research project.
Profile
You hold a Master degree recognized by the EU (or you will have obtained it by the time you start to work) in one of the following disciplines : Medicine, Biomedical Sciences or Psychology.You can demonstrate excellent study results.Your teaching competences are in line with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision.Your research qualities are in line with the faculty and university research policies.You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation.Strong interest in clinical research in neurology, neurodegenerative diseases, movement disorders and sleep medicineYou have general knowledge in clinical and basic science aspects of Parkinson's disease and sleep research (or have a strong interest in developing these).You have a basic knowledge of data processing and statistical analysis.You are motivated to work within an international project in Europe, including possible travelling.You are solution-oriented and a critical thinker.You have excellent writing and communication skills; excellent command of academic English (written, oral and communication) is highly desirable.You can work independently as well as in team.What we offer
We offer a doctoral scholarship for a period of 2 years. Following a positive evaluation, the scholarship can be renewed for 2 years. Nevertheless, you are expected to apply for a doctoral grant of the Research Fund - Flanders (FWO).The planned start date is as soon as possible .Your monthly scholarship amount is calculated according to the scholarship amounts for doctoral scholarship holders on the pay scales for Contract Research Staff (Dutch : Bijzonder Academisch Personeel, BAP).You will do most of your work at Campus Drie Eiken and at the neighbouring Antwerp University Hospital in a dynamic and stimulating working environment.Find out more about working at the University of Antwerp here.Want to apply?
