The Research Group Government & Law in the Faculty of Law is looking for a full-time (100%) doctoral scholarship holder in the field of law and urban overtourism in Europe.
Position
- You will work actively on the preparation and defence of a PhD thesis entitled “Coping with Urban Overtourism in Europe : EU Law as a Facilitator or an Impediment?”. The project aims to map the hard regulatory measures against urban overtourism in Europe most often proposed in academic literature and most often taken in practice by those in power to regulate. In a next step, the researcher examines how these measures relate to the economic freedoms protected under EU law. Finally, the need for EU legislation that would facilitate the regulation of tourism as an economic activity for sustainability purposes is examined.
- You will publish scientific articles related to the research project.
- You will carry out a limited number of teaching and research support tasks for the Faculty of Law.
Profile
You hold a Master degree in law or you will have obtained it by the time you start work.You can demonstrate very good study results.Your teaching competences are in line with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision.Your research qualities are in line with the faculty and university research policies.You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation.During your studies, you have at least followed and succeeded for a basic (bachelor) course on EU law, including internal market law. A thorough knowledge of EU (internal market law), obtained through e.g. advanced courses at master level, is a plus.Your proficiency in English is high (the PhD thesis is written in English) and you are willing to take additional courses on academic English offered by our doctoral programme.A good (passive) knowledge of other languages used in the EU is a plus.You have taken trainings om qualitative empirical methods, especially interviews, and / or you are prepared to follow trainings offered by our doctoral programme.You are prepared to go abroad for conferences and a research stay (but we take into account your personal and family situation when determining, together, the location and length).What we offer
We offer a doctoral scholarship for a period of two years. Following a positive evaluation, the scholarship can be renewed for another two years.The planned start date is 1 January 2024 or as soon as possible after that date.Your monthly scholarship amount is calculated according to the scholarship amounts for doctoral scholarship holders on the pay scales for Contract Research Staff (Dutch : Bijzonder Academisch Personeel, BAP).You will receive ecocheques, Internet-connectivity allowance, and a bicycle allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.You will do most of your work at the City Campus of the University of Antwerp in a dynamic and stimulating working environment.Find out more about working at the University of Antwerp here.Want to apply?
