Today, we are looking for a full-time Research Engineer - High-speed propulsion.

The Research Engineer will be knowledgeable in high-speed propulsion, thermodynamics, compressible fluid dynamics and / or reacting flows with relevant experience in numerical research. You will lead the development efforts on high-fidelity reactive CFD solvers and reduced order modelling tools that are specialized to simulate hypersonic and supersonic propulsion systems and their critical components. Being knowledgeable in turbomachinery flows and experimental rig design is an asset.

While leading and supporting the research team, you will be responsible for project management tasks, technical reporting and communication with international industrial sponsors and / or research partners. Additionally, you will work closely with the Head of the Propulsion Research Group in the supervision of postgraduate students, in identifying and pursuing opportunities for future research projects, and in advancing the research capabilities of the group.

Your responsibilities

  • Technical leadership throughout the lifecycle of the project.
  • Project management of numerical and experimental research projects.
  • Supervision and execution of numerical solver and thermodynamic modelling tool development programs geared towards high-speed propulsion.
  • Development of advanced analysis and flow visualization routines, data processing and presentation of results.
  • Technical communication with suppliers and research partners.
  • Technical reporting to industrial and institutional sponsors as well as research partners.
  • Dissemination of results through conference / journal publications and conference participation.
  • Active contribution to the continuous advancement of the research capabilities of the group.
  • Active contribution to the maintenance and expansion of the project portfolio.
  • Grant proposal writing and preparation.
  • Supervision of PhD and postgraduate students.

Job requirements

  • PhD in Mechanical, Aeronautical / Aerospace, chemical or related engineering field.
  • Thorough understanding of compressible fluid dynamics, with a focus on high-speed propulsion systems and their design.
  • Expertise in numerical research, reactive flow modelling and thermodynamics of propulsion cycles.
  • Expertise in advanced data analysis and post-processing techniques for high-fidelity numerical simulations.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, and ability to work with multidisciplinary / multi-cultural teams.
  • Self-motivated, proactive and passionate about hypersonic and supersonic propulsion.
