EORTC Fellowship Program

Open fellowship position for a Medical Doctor (2023-2024)

EORTC promotes multidisciplinary cancer research in Europe. EORTC research is conducted in over 928 institutions in 36 countries. Its network of investigators comprises more than 5,300 scientists and clinicians collaborating in 18 active groups and tasks forces. EORTC walks closely together with patients through phases from cancer diagnosis, treatment, and their psychosocial experience after cancer.

The EORTC offers a one-year research fellowship (renewable to a maximum of 3 years) to learn the methodology of cancer clinical studies and being immersed in the activities of an international academic research organization.

The fellow will work under the keen supervision of the EORTC medical team and will collaborate and interact with a multidisciplinary team inside the organization as well as EORTC’s Genito Urinary Cancer Group GUCG network.

Main Activities

The fellow will receive a general training on methodology of clinical trials, specifically how to develop and conduct cancer clinical trials at the European level. S / he will predominantly be involved with the activities of the GU tumor group.

  • Research strategy and positioning of the GU group on bladder and kidney cancers, with the aim to publish a manuscript
  • Pre-development of GU studies that emerge from strategic discussions (renal cancer, bladder cancer)
  • As part of a pragmatic trial development, methodological research on study participants’ informed consent
  • Furthermore, the fellow will be involved in medical reviews of ongoing studies, the day-to-day management of clinical trials and reporting on own research findings and group’s results.
  • In case the 1333-GUCG ‘PEACE 3’ study is positive, coordinating the publication flow of results
  • Contribute to the analysis of 1414-GUCG ‘PEGASUS’ study and support publication of results.

Profile / Skills

  • Be an early career medical oncologist with GU cancer focus (5 years of clinical experience).
  • Basic understanding of medical statistics.
  • Have a special interest in clinical cancer research methodology.
  • Preferably have a background in the conduct of clinical trials and cancer research.
  • Be fluent in English.
  • Be computer literate.
  • Be able to work in an international environment.
  • Have a team spirit and excellent communication skills.
  • Support to the fellow is provided by a multidisciplinary staff including medical doctors and biostatisticians.

    The fellowship will take place at the EORTC Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. EORTC offers a highly stimulating, professional, and friendly atmosphere in an international environment.
