The research centre WaveCoRE in the Department of Electrical Engineering (ESAT) of KU Leuven focuses on wireless communication fundamentals and systems. In the WaveCoRE, the Networked Systems group led by Prof. Sofie Pollin covers research on various fields of wireless communications and networking such as Cell-Free Massive MIMO, Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN), Internet of Things (IoT), Joint Communication and Sensing, Machine Learning-based Signal Processing, and Simultaneous Wireless Information and Power Transfer (SWIPT), etc.
The vacancy is in the context of a MSCA doctoral network. We aim to train 10 talented PhD students on the topic of joint communication and sensing. This vacancy focuses on one of the 10 specific topics or vacancies for the training network. More info can be found in the link below.
Project
6G is attracting extensive attention in both industry and academia. There are three new visions released by the ITU to top up 5G : integrated sensing and communication, integrated AI and communication, as well as ubiquitous connectivity that mainly employs non-terrestrial infrastructure such as drones and satellites. For these visions, there is a tremendous need for original communication solutions including sensing methodologies, channel theory, and cross-layer design. Therefore, we are looking for highly motivated Ph.D. students to conduct cutting-edge research in wireless channels and sensing under the emerging 6G aerial networks. The position will target following objectives : To develop techniques to match the channel observation across different bands; To exploit the feature richness of multi-band sensing to detect minute changes of the environment; To exploit federated learning for low-overhead and accurate model training.
