As a Global Functional Safety Architect and Methodology Expert at onsemi, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of safety-critical semiconductor components. Functional safety management has emerged as a critical domain of expertise in the automotive sector, significantly impacting the development of safety-critical automotive hardware and software. This field continues to evolve, gaining even greater significance as autonomous vehicles become more widespread, necessitating heightened safety standards. Your expertise will play a crucial role in advancing safety standards within our organization.

As a member of the Global Functional Safety Team, you will be co-responsible for :

  • Ownership and Enhancement of Methodology : You will take ownership together with the global functional safety team of the corporate functional safety methodology for the development of mixed-signal components. This methodology aligns with relevant functional safety processes and standards and encompasses both hardware and embedded software aspects of integrated circuits (ICs).
  • Tool and Training Development : You will drive the creation and improvement of dedicated tools, templates, and training materials. These resources will facilitate the implementation by the design teams of functional safety work products in accordance with the corporate functional safety processes and methodology.

As Global Functional Safety Architect and Methodology Expert, you will assume the following responsibilities :

  • Ownership of Digital Functional Safety Methodology : Collaborate closely with internal teams to drive the development and enhancement of the digital Functional Safety methodology including the prevention of systematic failures. Drive the methodology to allow for incorporation of Safety Mechanisms (such as DMR, TMR, ECC, parity) into the design from RTL to place and route. Develop and oversee the digital fault injection methodology, encompassing fault injection simulation and formal verification for both permanent and transient faults. Provide support for defining the digital FuSa architecture in complex MCU platforms. Collaborate with internal teams to specify safety concepts for projects and propose initial FuSa architectures. Contribute to creating efficient functional safety critical systems, ensuring a well-defined split between hardware and embedded software. Identify and propose digital FuSa Intellectual Property (IP) to harmonize the overall FuSa Architecture and conduct formal reviews of all IP used in the company. Explore new FuSa tools from various EDA vendors and establish interfaces with these companies.
  • Engagement with Independent Assessors : Interface with independent assessors to advocate for the benefits of our global functional safety methodology and way of working.
  • FuSa-Cybersecurity Interface : Provide support to integrate in a clean way CyberSecurity requirements and assumptions into the existing FuSa methodology and architecture.
  • What You Will Need :

    Our preferred candidate has :

  • A BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Microelectronics, Computer Engineering or related technical field.
  • Some years of experience in development and verification of digital components.
  • Solid understanding of digital design and verification best practices.
  • What You May Bring :

    Experience in some or all of the following technical areas :

  • Proficiency in ISO 26262 / IEC 61508 standard and functional safety analysis for semiconductor devices (FMEDA, DFA, FTA).
  • Demonstrated experience with FMEDA tools (. Medini Analyze, SOX2 or other similar tools).
  • Knowledge in fault injection simulation and formal verification techniques.
  • Familiarity with common CPU architectures (ARM, RISCV)
  • Familiarity with reliability calculation methods (. SN 29500, IEC 62380, FIDES, …).
  • Understanding of embedded software development best practices.
  • Understanding of Automotive SPICE and AUTOSAR.
  • Awareness of Cybersecurity standards (ISO / SAE 21434).
  • Scripting language experience, particularly with Python.
  • Ability to establish strong relationships with your team and other leaders across the organization.
  • It is important for the candidate to have strong organizational skills and to feel comfortable communicating in written and spoken English.
