jobdetails You will be responsible for conducting research directed to developing creative solutions to
synthetic chemistry problems across a portfolio of projects. In the High Throughput
Experimentation Biocatalysis (HTE Biocatalysis) team, we focus on developing new
biocatalysts for chemoselective and enantioselective biotransformations. The ...HTE Biocatalysis team operates across a portfolio of projects focusing on the development of
biocatalytic processes for the Janssen pipeline, generating creative and innovative ways
towards new biosynthetic routes and solutions, that enable large scale
manufacturing of target active pharmaceutical ingredients (API¿s).
This is an outstanding occasion to participate in a real-life industrial research program at a
state-of-the-art facility. After an initial training provided by an experienced team member, the
successful candidate will team up with process chemistry, crystallization, engineering, and
safety experts to support the design of the best manufacturing process. These cross-functional
teams work closely together bridging the pilot plants with commercial production. New
chemical processes are developed meeting stringent requirements concerning safety,
environment, technology, economy and quality. As a result of these endeavours, drug
candidates are accelerated through the development pipeline by enabling sufficient supplies of
API¿s in support of clinical trials, registration and finally commercialization.

    Mentored by an industry expert, you will contribute to the development of biosynthetic routes
    towards organic molecules in the context of a biocatalytic process project. The goal is to
    develop the best possible biocatalytic process to manufacture API¿s at commercial supply
    scale by supplying novel biocatalysts through recruitment, protein engineering, and screening
    campaigns. In this context, you will have the chance to improve patients¿ lives.

    Responsibilities and duties:
    - Work together with a group of highly motivated scientists in a pioneering laboratory in
    the J&J chemistry department.
    - Participate in an active small molecule drug development program.
    - After an initial training and introduction in the department, able to independently
    operate (under supervision) and propose alternatives or solutions for challenging
    biocatalytic routes.
    Qualifications:
    - Strong theoretical and practical background in molecular biology, biocatalysis, and
    chemistry.
    - Experience with analytical techniques such as UV-Vis spectroscopy,
    gel electrophoresis, LC-MS and GC.
    - Highly motivated and open mindset to operate and learn in a dynamic scientific
    environment, both independent and as part of a team.
    - Fast learner, independent & critical thinker.

    We provide an allowance per worked day, to cover for your daily
    expenses. Additional support for housing opportunities is available depending on the
    distance to campus. By participation in trainings and events you will be able to
    broaden your expertise and knowledge.
