You hold a master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences, Bioscience Engineering, Biology, or a related discipline.Since the practicals are taught in Dutch, you have strong written and spoken Dutch language skills. For the PhD, you also have a good command of written and spoken English.You have solid knowledge of Immunology and Virology and a strong background in Cell Biology and related fields.You are passionate about fundamental and clinically applied research in Immunology and are willing to work with patient samples.You are well-organized, capable of planning effectively, and have leadership qualities.You are enthusiastic, driven, and eager to learn.Assets are demonstrable experience in immunological research, working with patient samples, and cell cultures.Assistants support the senior academic staff (ZAP) in their teaching duties and are also expected to complete a doctoral dissertation.
- Specifically, the assistant will prepare and teach the practical sessions in Immunology and Virology in the second year of the Biomedical Sciences bachelor's program at the Leuven and Kortrijk campuses, and the Virology practicals in the second year of the Dentistry bachelor's program at the Leuven campus. The scientific research for the doctoral dissertation will be conducted in the Laboratory of Immunobiology (Leuven).
- For this teaching assignment, you will consult and report to the responsible professors. You will prepare the practicals in a structured manner (at the times set by the faculty in the first or second semester) and coordinate with all involved parties.
- You will take the lead in delivering the practicals and coach other scientific collaborators who assist with the teaching.
- You will pursue a PhD in Biomedical Sciences and conduct scientific research in the Laboratory of Immunobiology at the Rega Institute in Leuven, under the supervision of Prof. P. Matthys. The Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Transplantation, Faculty of Medicine, is part of the Group of Biomedical Sciences at KU Leuven and is known for its strong fundamental and translational research. In addition, the department provides high-quality education in bachelor’s and master’s programs within the Faculty of Medicine. To further support our educational mission, we are looking for a full-time assistant to supervise practical sessions in Immunology and Virology.
- A full-time position for 2 years (salary scale 43), extendable up to 6 years upon positive evaluation. The position can start as early as September 15 and no later than October 1, 2025.
- As an assistant, you will work in the stimulating environment of the Rega Institute and have the opportunity to collaborate with the university hospital in Leuven and other research groups within or outside the department
