About the Role

Our client, a leading company based in Brussels, is looking for an experienced Freelance Data Engineer to design, develop, and optimize data pipelines and infrastructure. You will play a key role in ensuring efficient data processing, integration, and storage to support business intelligence and analytics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL / ELT processes.
  • Develop and optimize data infrastructure for performance and reliability.
  • Work with structured and unstructured data to ensure high-quality data processing .
  • Collaborate with Data Scientists, Analysts, and Business Teams to enable data-driven insights.
  • Implement data governance, security, and compliance best practices.
  • Work with cloud and on-premise data platforms to support analytics and reporting.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize database queries and processing workflows .

Requirements

  • Fluent in French or Dutch (English proficiency is a plus).
  • Proven experience as a Data Engineer , preferably in a freelance or consulting capacity.
  • Strong expertise in SQL, Python, and / or Scala .
  • Experience with big data technologies (Spark, Hadoop, Kafka) is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Knowledge of ETL tools, data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift) and pipeline orchestration (Airflow, dbt).
  • Understanding of data modeling, database design, and data governance principles .
  • Familiarity with CI / CD pipelines for data workflows is a plus.
