Data Engineer

We’re looking for an experienced Data Warehouse Engineer (freelancer) to join a leading information and digital services company in Brussels. You’ll help implement an enterprise-wide data warehouse blueprint and shape a modern, scalable data platform built on Data Vault 2.0 principles.

This is a long-term freelance role within a dynamic, forward-thinking data team, driving the delivery of high-impact analytics solutions.

Logistics

• Position: Freelance Data Warehouse Engineer
• Duration: 12-month contract (with potential extension)
• Day Rate: Competitive
• Location: Brussels, Belgium (Hybrid - 2x days on-site)
• Start Date: ASAP

Core Responsibilities

• Implement prioritised business use cases based on the enterprise data warehouse blueprint.
• Develop and maintain a Data Vault-based warehouse.
• Write and optimise complex SQL queries for data processing and reporting.
• Ensure adherence to governance, quality, and security standards.
• Collaborate with data engineers, architects, and business stakeholders to bring the reference architecture to life.
• Troubleshoot and resolve data ingestion and transformation issues.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Proven experience as a Data Warehouse Engineer or similar.
• Strong Data Vault modeling and implementation skills.
• Advanced SQL proficiency (tuning, joins, window functions).
• Solid understanding of ETL/ELT and data integration patterns.
• Hands-on experience with Snowflake, Azure Synapse, BigQuery, or Redshift.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset; experience in Agile/Scrum environments.

Nice to Have

• Experience with data vault automation tools.
• Familiarity with GCP, CI/CD pipelines, and data governance frameworks.
• Exposure to BI tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
