Photonics Design Expert

Our client, a leading global telecommunications solutions provider, is seeking a talented Photonics Design Expert to join their dynamic research and development team in Gent, Belgium. The Photonics Design Expert will play a pivotal role in driving the company’s silicon photonics innovation and product development initiatives.

Role Description

As the Photonics Design Expert, you will be responsible for designing and modelling photonic components and circuits, contributing to chip design reviews, and guiding the definition of PIC-based system architectures for novel applications. You will work closely with local processing and test teams, as well as global component / module teams, to bring new photonics-based solutions to market.

Must Have Skills

• In-depth knowledge of integrated optics and optoelectronics components and systems
• Experience in the design and test of silicon photonics and III-V components
• Working knowledge of integrating PICs with EICs, RF ICs, and driving circuitry in transceiver modules or equivalent sub-system applications
• Proven track record of project / product management skills, bringing new components or systems to market in volume production
• Hands-on experience with photonics modelling tools (e.g., Photon design, Lumerical, COMSOL, CST)

Nice to Have Skills

• Experience in layout tools (e.g., Tanner L-Edit, Luceda Ipkiss)
• Experience with Luceda Ipkiss
• Experience with Python
• Experience with VPI software
• Fluency in Dutch or Chinese language
