Task Description
Legal Counsel – Data Protection & Privacy
As Legal Counsel, you will provide day-to-day legal support to Proximus Global and its subsidiaries, with a strong focus on data protection and privacy within the Corporate Affairs department.
Your mission will include :
Partnering with Business Teams
Advise on data protection and data handling standards, including appropriate disclosure, notification, and consent mechanismsSupport the drafting, review, and negotiation of data sharing, transfer, and processing agreementsResearch and respond to privacy-related queries as they arisePrivacy Program Management
Support the development and maintenance of Proximus Global and its subsidiaries’ global privacy programme, ensuring that policies, standards, playbooks, and procedures align with programme objectivesContribute to the design and delivery of privacy training for employeesAssist in measuring and auditing the effectiveness of privacy policies and standards, both internally and with third-party vendorsExplore and implement technical tools that enhance privacy complianceMonitoring and Compliance with Applicable Data Protection Laws
Support the implementation of measures to ensure Proximus Global and its subsidiaries comply with applicable data protection laws and regulationsMonitor country-specific regulatory developments to maintain awareness of global changes in the privacy landscapeAssist in developing and managing internal controls aligned with privacy legal frameworksData Subject Services
Helps implement and monitor out-opt, technical monitoring, and data subject services such as the data subject access request program.Ensures that subject access requests are logged and responded to within the prescribed periods.Privacy Impact Assessments
Prepare documents, data flow diagrams, and related materials for :New products, product enhancements, workflow changes, and new use casesConduct and maintain Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) and Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs)Perform periodic compliance reviews to ensure alignment with privacy requirementsPrivacy by Design
Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and other teams to embed a privacy-by-design approach into data processing activitiesAnalyse use cases and develop operational procedures for new business scenarios involving internal or external data handlingRefine and develop privacy policies, and provide guidance on the privacy implications of products and servicesIncident & Breach Response
Assist in managing data incidents and breaches, including evaluating notification obligations and coordinating appropriate responsesData Governance & Compliance
Contribute to the development of a data governance and compliance frameworkHelp define objectives, methodologies, and scalable processes to ensure consistent application of data retention and deletion policies across the organisationGeneral Support
Perform other duties as assigned, contributing flexibly to the broader legal and privacy functionYour Profile
Qualifications & Experience
Master’s degree in Law.3–5 years of hands-on experience in data protection or privacy law, ideally within a law firm or technology company.Proven expertise in GDPR and solid knowledge of global privacy frameworks, security laws, and evolving regulations.Professional privacy certification ( CIPP, CIPT, CIPM, CISSP) is a strong asset.Fluent in English, both written and spoken; additional languages are a plus.Skills & Knowledge
Strong ability to interpret and apply privacy regulations in practical business contexts.In-depth understanding of personal data and its lifecycle across business functions—experience in the telecommunications sector is ideal, though relevant exposure to other regulated or consumer-facing industries is also valued.Familiarity with IT systems and their role in data collection and processing.Sound legal and commercial judgement, with the ability to clearly communicate risk and enable scalable compliance strategies.Solid grasp of privacy principles, technologies, and control frameworks.Mindset & Capabilities
