Spanning across Leuven, Ghent, Brussels, and Antwerp, our facilities house a team of over 100 staff members.The VIB Bioimaging Core plans to strengthen the team in Leuven with a motivated Microscopy Senior Core Facility Technician. The VIB BioImaging Core supports both light and electron microscopy to answer complex biological questions - https : / / bioimagingcore-leuven.sites.vib.be / en. The staff is the heart of the facility, and the experts consult, train, and collaborate with users on experimental design, image acquisition, and image analysis. The focus of the responsibilities of the new Technician is to provide advanced light microscopy expertise to our user community. ProfileYou have a Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Biological Sciences, Biomedicine, Biochemistry or related disciplines, or equivalent through experience You have some experience with light microscopy (2 years) You are technology-minded and have a service mindset for supporting and enabling the best science by offering of expertise in technology You are a team player with strong social, communication and didactic skills You are well-organized, self-motivated, structured individual able to autonomously execute tasks, documenting and reporting work accurately You are eager to learn and adapt in a fast-evolving environment Good English skills, both oral and written are a must The following is an advantage : Previous experience in Life Science research environments Extensive hands-on microscopy experience Knowledge of basic image analysis tools, including commercial software implementationsMain activitiesDiscuss experimental design, including sample preparation, acquisition and image analysis possibilities with users and colleaguesSupport scientists on light microscopy applications, including widefield, confocal, high-throughput scannersEnsure that the core’s instrumentation is benchmarked and working up to standardsTrain users on the core’s instrument portfolio, and follow up evolution of newly trained usersTake part in immediate support permanency in the coreParticipate in teaching activities organized by the core (courses, workshops, seminars)We offerOpen-ended contractCompetitive salary and benefitsStimulating international work environment In-house training Access to state-of-the-art infrastructure How to apply?Motivated candidates are asked to apply online.
