Language Requirements : Fluent in Dutch (spoken and written); English is a plus

Work Mode : Hybrid (On-site in Ghent + Remote)

About the Client

Our client, a forward-thinking organization based in Ghent, is looking for an experienced Freelance Data Engineer to support their data platform modernization efforts. You’ll play a crucial role in designing, building, and optimizing data pipelines to ensure reliable and scalable data infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop robust, scalable ETL / ELT data pipelines
  • Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and software engineers to deliver data solutions
  • Work with cloud-based data platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP) and modern data stack tools
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, and security across the data lifecycle
  • Monitor and troubleshoot performance issues in data workflows
  • Participate in architectural discussions and recommend best practices
  • Document technical solutions and processes clearly in Dutch

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a Data Engineer (freelance or in-house)
  • Strong proficiency in Python , SQL , and distributed systems
  • Experience with modern data tools such as Airflow , dbt , Spark , or similar
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Understanding of data warehousing principles (e.g. Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift)
  • Strong communication and documentation skills in Dutch
  • Ability to work independently and manage project deadlines
  • Based in Belgium, or able to be on-site in Ghent several days a week

    • Nice to Have

  • Experience in CI / CD pipelines and DevOps for data
  • Familiarity with data governance and GDPR compliance
  • Prior work in the Belgian or Flemish market
