In the Science, Engineering and Technology Group of KU Leuven, Faculty of Engineering Science Department of Electrical Engineering, there is a parttime (10%) academic vacancy in the area of hardware design for AI.
We are looking for internationally oriented candidates with an excellent research record and with educational competence within the field of digital hardware design.
Duties
Research
Recent performance advancements in hardware have been limited, with new GPUs or CPUs showing minimal improvements in performance per area or efficiency. However, there is a growing need for increased computational power to support the next generations (and combinations) of AI and scientific simulations, which are crucial for new biochemistry and material science applications. To make these workloads feasible, more specialized hardware will therefore become a necessity, a trend that is already starting.
- You develop a research program including the design of novel reconfigurable and / or parametrizable system architectures that take advantage of technology advancements in stacking and packaging to combine various general-purpose or specialized chip(let)s. System simulation of these novel system architectures should allow the assessment and optimization for particular workloads, or even support co-design.
- You are capable of acquiring competitive funding.
- You strive for excellence in your research and thus provide a contribution to the continued development of the department.
- You publish at the highest scientific level, acquire resources for fundamental and applied research, develop international collaborations and supervise PhDs at an international level.
Teaching
You ensure high-quality education within the area of hardware design, with a clear commitment to the quality of the programme as a whole. Your teaching task is determined in consultation and based on your specific profile.You also contribute to the pedagogic project of the faculty / university through the supervision of master theses and as a promoter of PhD students.You develop your teachings in accordance with KU Leuven’s vision on activating and researched-based education and make use of the possibilities for the educationalist professionalization offered by the faculty and the university.Service
In addition to research and education-related tasks, you are prepared to take on administrative, organizational, or promotional tasks within the division, department and faculty, as well as tasks of scientific and social service.
Profile
You have a PhD.You have a strong research profile.The quality of your research is proven by publications in international leading journals.You are currently full-time employed at imec.You have demonstrable qualities related to academic education. Teaching experience is an advantage.You possess organisational skills and have a cooperative attitude. You also possess leadership capacities within a university context.A good command of English is required. KU Leuven provides courses in academic English.The official administrative language used at KU Leuven is Dutch.
