Mainframe Programmer / Technical Analyst
Overview
The Mainframe Programmer / Technical Analyst is responsible for the development, maintenance, and support of core enterprise applications running on IBM z / OS environments. This role combines hands-on programming with systems analysis, ensuring that business requirements are translated into stable, scalable mainframe solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze business and technical requirements to design, develop, test, and implement mainframe application enhancements.
- Write, modify, and debug COBOL, JCL, VSAM, and related mainframe components.
- Maintain and optimize existing batch and online systems, ensuring reliability, performance, and compliance with internal standards.
- Troubleshoot production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement long-term fixes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including business analysts, QA, infrastructure, and operations.
- Support application lifecycle activities such as version control, documentation, and deployment.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of development practices.
- Ensure adherence to security, audit, and regulatory requirements.
- Provide on-call and after-hours support when required.
Required Qualifications
Proven experience in mainframe application development in an enterprise environment.Strong proficiency with COBOL, JCL, TSO / ISPF, VSAM, and utilities such as SORT.Familiarity with DB2 or other mainframe databases, including SQL.Understanding of batch scheduling tools (CA7, Control-M, or similar).Experience with debugging and performance-tuning tools.Ability to analyze complex systems, identify gaps, and propose practical solutions.Solid understanding of SDLC methodologies (Agile or Waterfall).Strong problem-solving and communication skills.Language : Dutch and English is must, and French is a plusPreferred Qualifications
Experience with CICS transaction processing.Knowledge of ChangeMan, Endevor, or similar code-management tools.Exposure to modernization projects (API enablement, rehosting, replatforming).Understanding of DevOps concepts within a mainframe context.Background in financial services, insurance, government, or other large-scale industries using z / OS systems.Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
