Head of Legal - Asset Management (DPAM)

Context

To further strengthen our leadership within the European asset management landscape, Degroof Petercam Asset Management (DPAM) is seeking an inspiring and strategic Head of Legal to lead our legal function.

Your position

• Report directly to the Co-CEO of DPAM, ensuring legal strategy is fully aligned with Group Legal standards, policies, and reporting requirements.
• Supervise and coach a team of legal professionals, fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture and supporting their development.
• Report functionally to the Head of Legal of Banque Degroof Petercam SA (DPAM’s parent company), with a clear mandate to build a strong, integrated relationship between the DPAM legal team and the Banque Degroof Petercam legal department. You will actively promote alignment, knowledge sharing, and collaboration, ensuring both teams operate as a cohesive unit and leverage each other’s expertise to support the Group’s objectives.
• Maintain close working relationships with the Group Indosuez Legal Management, facilitating cross-group legal collaboration and sharing best practices.
• Act as a strategic advisor to senior management, providing expert guidance on legal, regulatory, and governance matters impacting asset management and international fund distribution.
• Drive the implementation of regulatory projects (ESG, MiFID, UCITS, AIFM, RIS, DORA, outsourcing, marketing rules, etc.), ensuring DPAM remains at the forefront of compliance and innovation.
• Oversee contract review and negotiation with funds, management companies, service providers, and institutional clients, safeguarding DPAM’s interests and reputation.
• Represent DPAM with regulatory authorities (FSMA) and industry bodies (BEAMA), positioning the firm as a thought leader in asset management.
• Monitor and anticipate regulatory and legislative developments, translating complex legal frameworks into actionable business strategies.
• Promote a business-oriented legal culture, proactively identifying opportunities and risks, and ensuring legal needs are managed in line with local laws, regulations, and best practices.
• Champion legal excellence and innovation, continuously improving processes and leveraging technology to enhance legal operations.

Your profile

• Belgian Master in Law;
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in asset management, banking & finance, or as lawyer with proven leadership in legal teams ;
• Fluent in French and English, with at least a passive knowledge of Dutch;
• Inspirational leader with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trusted relationships across all levels of the organization. Prior experience in team management is a strong asset;
• Strategic thinker, able to translate legal complexity into practical business solutions;
• Autonomous, organized, and proactive, with a passion for driving change and delivering results;
• Deep understanding of asset management regulations and international fund distribution;
• Committed to continuous learning and professional development, both for yourself and your team.
