Senior Java Angular Full Stack Engineer - EU Institutions (Near-site Brussels)

We are looking for an experienced Full Stack Software Engineer to join an international environment supporting large-scale digital solutions within the transport and energy sectors. You will contribute to the analysis, design, development and continuous improvement of complex information systems and digital services used by public authorities, industry stakeholders and international organisations.

Working in a multicultural and highly collaborative environment, you will play a key role in delivering secure, scalable and high-quality software solutions, leveraging modern web technologies, API development, cloud-native practices and Agile methodologies. You will collaborate closely with business stakeholders, architects and development teams to deliver innovative and interoperable digital platforms.

What you will do

• Design and develop modern front-end and back-end applications.
• Develop responsive, user-friendly and high-performance web applications.
• Implement business logic and secure application functionalities.
• Design, develop and maintain REST APIs and web services.
• Apply security best practices including authentication, authorization, secure storage, logging and monitoring.
• Develop and maintain scalable software architectures and reusable components.
• Design and optimise database structures, queries and integrations across relational and non-relational databases.
• Perform software analysis, troubleshooting, debugging and issue resolution.
• Execute unit and integration testing activities and validate software quality.
• Deliver technical solutions that meet both functional and non-functional requirements.
• Create and maintain technical documentation and software specifications.
• Deploy and manage applications using CI/CD pipelines and containerisation technologies.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders and technical teams to improve digital solutions and business processes.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support the implementation of interoperable Hub-and-Spoke architectures and integration solutions.

What we are looking for

• University degree corresponding to Level 7 of the European Qualifications Framework (typically a Master's degree or 5 years of higher education) and a minimum of 10 years of professional IT experience; or
• University degree corresponding to Level 6 of the European Qualifications Framework (typically a Bachelor's degree or 3 years of higher education) and a minimum of 12 years of professional IT experience; or
• Secondary education granting access to higher education and a minimum of 17 years of professional IT experience.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in software development.
• Minimum 10 years of experience developing Java-based applications.
• Minimum 10 years of experience with Web Services, APIs, REST, SOAP, XML and JSON.
• Minimum 10 years of experience with Angular or equivalent modern front-end frameworks, HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
• Minimum 10 years of experience working with SQL databases.
• Minimum 10 years of experience working in Agile environments.
• Minimum 10 years of experience using Atlassian tools such as Jira and Confluence.
• Minimum 10 years of experience working with UML modelling.
• Strong knowledge of Java, Spring Boot, Hibernate and modern application development practices.
• Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL and Oracle, as well as NoSQL databases such as MongoDB.
• Experience designing, developing and securing RESTful APIs and web services.
• Knowledge of CI/CD tools and automation practices including Git, Maven, Bamboo and GitLab.
• Knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes.
• Understanding of authentication and authorization standards such as OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT and SSO.
• Experience applying solution architecture principles to build scalable, secure and interoperable systems.
• Experience implementing Hub-and-Spoke integration architectures.
• Excellent English communication skills (minimum B2 level).
• Ability to work effectively in multicultural and international environments.
• Eligibility to obtain EU security clearance.

Nice to have:

• Experience in transport, mobility or energy-related digital projects.
• Experience with Angular, React, Vue.js or Bootstrap ecosystems.
• Knowledge of AS4 OASIS messaging standards.
• Experience working on European Commission or public-sector programmes.
• Experience using Generative AI tools for software development and automated unit test generation.
• Knowledge of French as an additional language
