AI-assisted engineering is already delivering step-change results inside our Compressor Technique Service division, where + people build and run the software behind our connected industrial equipment. Those results have come, so far, from a self-selecting group of early adopters. The next step is harder and worth far more: making AI-assisted work the normal way of working for the whole delivery organisation: from hardcore developers to testers and people who (almost) never open an IDE (such as business analyst and POs).
Lead the division-wide adoption of AI-assisted and agentic engineering across every team that builds and ships software; developers, but equally product owners, business analysts, test engineers, designers and support. This is a people job before it is a technical one: a year from now you will be judged on how many colleagues work differently, not on how much you personally built. It needs the credibility of an engineer who has shipped real systems and the energy of someone who can make a skeptical room want to try something on Monday morning.
- Create the pull. Lead the Compressor Technique Aftermarket AI community of practice; the demos, showcases, hackathons and lunch sessions that make people want in, and connect it to the wider Atlas Copco community.
- Bring the non-developers with you. Product owners, business analysts, test engineers, designers and support colleagues each need use cases from their own work, in their own language, not a developer demo with the code hidden.
- Show, don’t tell. Build the prototypes, demos and reference implementations that prove what is possible yourself or with your ambassador network, then hand the pattern over to the teams.
- Grow contributors, not consumers. Get teams creating and sharing their own skills, agent files, prompts and starter packs. You own the framework, the quality bar and the curation, not the backlog of assets.
- Design and deliver knowledge from training (online/classroom), coach individuals and teams one-on-one, and whatever other format helps to push the knowledge needle.
- Define and roll out standards and governance for AI-assisted work, aligned with security, compliance and data policies, and integrated into Atlas Copco’s product development methodology.
- Establish a measurement framework: baseline and track adoption, productivity and quality, and build the ROI picture over time.
- Track the fast-evolving tooling landscape; run evaluations and follow up on investments in tooling, hardware, open models, and procurement.
To succeed, you will need
- A track record of changing how other people work. A community of practice, an internal enablement or transformation programme, a guild, a training track; something where you held no formal authority and people came along anyway.
- The ability to make it click for anyone. You can explain agentic working to a test engineer, a product owner and a principal developer on the same day, and each of them leaves with something they can use tomorrow.
- At least 5 years of production-level software development and delivery experience. You will not be writing production code most days, but you will be coaching people who do; and they will know within a week whether you have done the work yourself.
- Hands-on across more than one stack (e.g. .NET, Python, Matlab, Flutter, data and/or embedded): enough to build a convincing prototype and to read anyone’s codebase.
- Demonstrated practical use of AI coding / agentic tools (Copilot, Claude, Codex, or equivalent) on real delivery work.
- Understanding of the evolving cost models of AI agents, and of the security impact of different AI alternatives.
- Familiarity with the full SDLC and with governance, security, and compliance considerations.
- Fluent English communication skills.
Nice to have
- Experience with Databricks, Azure, Flutter, Matlab, or embedded / firmware environments.
- Exposure to ML / agent workflows and to evaluating models and tooling.
- Experience creating material people actually consume: internal talks, workshops, written guides, short video.
