The Belgian Green Building Council (BGBC) is looking for a Sustainable Building Expert to join us — freelance, senior, part-time, speaking FR/NL/EN, Brussels-based, starting January 2027.

BGBC brings together the entire Belgian real estate value chain to build a common language for sustainability in real estate. As we scale up our Task Forces, we need someone who combines strong technical expertise in sustainable building with the facilitation skills of an experienced consultant.

You'll work closely with me and our Communications Manager, and be a trusted point of contact for our members.

What you'll do:

→ Maintain and update BGBC's deliverables (EU Taxonomy Guidance, Climate-Adaptive Buildings Framework, Green Building Asset Valuation, Green Building Barometer)

→ Help develop new ones — criteria sheets, implementation guides, case studies, policy recommendations

→ Co-animate Task Force meetings with me

→ Support technical content for publications, press and social media

→ Track international best practice via WorldGBC and translate it for the Belgian market

What we're looking for:

→ 4–5 years' experience in sustainable building / real estate in Belgium, ideally in consultancy

→ Solid grasp of EU Taxonomy, EPBD, xlxgzvr Whole Life Carbon and certification schemes

→ Strong facilitation skills — comfortable in the room with banks, developers, architects, contractors and public authorities

→ Good working knowledge of English, French and Dutch

→ A pragmatic, solution-oriented mindset

Practicalities: one-year contract with renewal option, minimum 1 day/week in Brussels.

Freelance or seconded from a member company — both work for us.
